Time Well Spent

Time Well Spent
What a journey I have had.  I have learned many things gotten insights that I would have missed about myself and about people in general.  I have had to get glasses and give up football for two seasons.
One of the things that I will always keep first in mind is that we have to remember that cultural shapes all of us, and even if we have not defined our own personal cultures it shapes who we are and how we respond to others.  Secondly I will not just make a connection to children but include the family in making them a part of our connection.  Third I have learned the importance of me making connections to other professionals from all over the world and keeping up to date with new findings.
My goal is to one by one make a connection to other cultures and lead children into exploring different cultures and languages.  Maybe I will finally catch on and really learn a new language.  It would be wonderful to learn maybe two languages.
I want to thank each and every one of my classmates and instructors,  you have made me dig deep and take the time to really learn how to use my computer, and sit down and get my work done and become a dedicated student.  I have to thank my children also, without them I would not have finished this journey.
Maybe in a few years we should all do a blog and catch up with each other.  If you every need to or want to get in touch with me, I am at carmellianickens@yahoo.com.
Best of Luck to each of you!!!!

Jobs/ Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

The Association for Childhood Education International appeals to me because of the ideal of brings together people of different backgrounds, professions, and nations to talk about children, education and the well-being of children.
Association for Childhood Education International
Communicating Manager will need a four year degree, have strength in writing and editing, communication, with a focus on youth education, Human Rights & civil liberties.  This association’s focus is on the advancement of education for children worldwide. Will need strong writing skills and need to be flexible.
United Nations Children’s Fund
UNCF appeals to me because their focus is on health care for children and to provide clean water and sanitation, education, and emergency relief.
The UNCF has a job called a Project Assistant this person will provide support to the President’s Office and Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnership and UNIEI Venture.  I thought that this was a job that would have people involved in projects that UNCF is associated with, it does not.
Education Specialist/Youth Development will plan and implement, monitor, and evaluate the Education and Youth Development program for efficiency and effectiveness of the programs management and delivery and accomplishments.  You will need an advance university degree in Education or Social Science, or related field to international development.  5 years in related work at the national and the international levels, also speak English fluently and a second UN language.  Must be able to work and get along in a multi-cultural environment, have leadership skills and supervisory skills, be able to build a rapport with individuals and groups and maintain a strong network.

The United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
Appeals to me because of childhood memories and the desire to start with dialogue among civilizations, cultures, and peoples based on commonly shared values and mutual respect, with a focus on the alleviation of poverty.
The job that was listed that was of interest to me was the Ethics advisor in Paris.  This person will have a 4year fixed job after the probationary period. They will oversee and implement the Ethics Program that is set up to foster a culture of ethics, transparency, accountability, and promoting ethical standards.  You will need a university degree in law, social sciences, public/business administrative or a related field.   There is a request of at least 10 years professional experience in ethnics, experience in preparation and implementation of ethnic training.   They are looking for someone with the ability to communicate, advocate, and negotiate with all levels of staff, leadership skills, speak English or French and a fair knowledge in one of the languages.

Jobs/ Roles in the ECE Community

The national organizations that I have interest in are The Zero To Three and High Scope, unfortunately for me they are out of my driving range.  Zero To Three is the National Center for Infants ,Toddlers, and Families and their mission is to nurture early development, and promote the health and development of infants and toddlers.  There were three jobs listed and one for early childhood the others were for different fields of study.  The Development Manager Proposal job requires a Masters or equivalent in early childhood education, public policy, or social work.  They are looking for someone with 5years of relevant work experience and knowledge of the early childhood system.  You would be required to conduct research, collaborate with statewide and county coalitions, track and promote state and community system building that can affect Zero To Three’s work.
High Scope is an international organization that looks at development training and public outreach organizations.  I like one of their motto’s “lift lives through education” by using participation learning.  High Scope provides training for teachers and administrators.  One of the jobs listed is Assistant Marketing Manager, Center for Early Education Evaluation Research Assistant 1.  This person must have a 4year degree in education or a related field, be able to do data entry and have 1-2 years’ experience in a child care setting.   A second job that was posted was an Early Childhood Literacy Specialist, whose job would be to oversee the development, and implantation of literacy based activities that would be delivered in a variety of direct-parent, direct-child, and parent-child together programs, that are set up to promote language and cognitive development, and general communication skills of children from birth to the age of five.  You must have a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and 2years experience as a parent educator and literacy program experience.

I am in the market and found some other interesting jobs, which I posted on my blog under JObs/Roles in the ECE Community.

JObs/ Roles in the ECE Community

I have found three jobs that if they were in my area I would love to apply for.  The first one is an Early Childhood Educator.  The Early childhood Educator needs a Bachelor’s and experience with infants, toddlers, and families, and be able to work  a flexible schedule. You will work in the clients’ natural environment.  The appealing part was that you will work in the client’s environment and that they have a focus and interest in the family along with the children.
The second job of interest is an Early Childhood Project Specialist, it appealed to me because you are asked to work on quality improvement, while helping people get their NAEYC accreditation and attainting the QRS rating.  The preferred requirements are Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, experience in management of an early childhood program, and the ability to communicate well, experience in social service.
The third one is a Child Care Director with a company called Encompass Early Education and Care; their focus is on staff and family relationships, staff professional development, and developing curriculum.  They require a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education and good communication skills.

Exploring Roles in ECE

I leave in a small rural area, and jobs are scarce.  A job that would interest me is an Early Childhood Program Specialist.  This job requires a Master in ECE and five years of teaching experience.  It is requested that you have problem solving skills and supervisor skills. I want to be able to help schools develop a program that meets the needs of all of our children. I do not have five years of experience in the classroom but ten years of keeping a school running smoothly.
A company called ICF is looking for an Early Childhood Education Specialist and they are looking for Maters also, but require a lot of travel that I cannot do.  They also require an extensive knowledge about Head Start, I know some but not a lot about the program.
I have looked into many positions at the Learning Care Group I like the mission statement of children having hands on approach and foster independence. They have many positions and look for many levels of education.  I would like to work there on an administrative level.
The third job that I looked at is a Post Adoption Support & Education Specialist.  I would like to work with families that are adopting or have adopted a child. There are different levels of the education specialist that starts with a Bachelors and working up to advance degrees with at least three years of experience.
I have signed up on many job sites to find openings in my area (50 miles) and get listing of jobs that are looking for people.
